Sports freak

Ok I'm going to live up to my blog URL and show the sports freak part of me. Lets start with football.......

Viva Espanyol!!!
Yes, Spain won the Euro 2008. Guess i picked the right team to support after all. =). They won in a 1-0 victory over Germany in the final. So to make it longer, I'm going to show you their route to victory.

Group stage
Beat Russia 4-1
Beat Sweden 2-1
Beat Greece 2-1
Quarter-final
Beat Italy 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 full time score
Semi-final
Beat Russia 3-0
Final
Beat Germany 1-0

Go China!!!
Ok moving on to tennis. Zheng Jie, a Chinese tennis player has made it through to the semi-final after knocking out big starts like Ivanovic and Vadisova. I suggest all Asians(including you Malaysians) to support her as a sign that Asia is just as good despite their huge size disadvantage. Her next match will be Serena Williams. So go ASIA!!

Mark Spitz challenge

Most of you won't know what I'm talking about. It's about Michale Phelps, a US swimmer who is planning to break the 7 Olympic gold medals record set by Mark Spitz. Phelps have taken part in 9 events this Olympics and hoping to get at least 8 golds. Many have said he won't be able to do it. I still am not sure wether he can or he won't. Whenever i think he won't be able to do it, he goes and break a world record at some trials. So i just have to see.

Strong or just plain suck?

My dad and I have been having this discussion for some time now. It's about our badminton national team. When one player does something out of the ordinary and wins a miracle......they soon fizzle out. Here are some examples.......

Hafiz Hashim....
Won the 2003 All-England cup and was regarded as 1 of Malaysia's most skillful players. Now look at him. Not even qualifying for the Olympics, can barely be considered a title contender at tournaments. What happened to the player that out government praised and rewarded wonderful things back in 2003?

Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong
The most recent list of disappointments. 1 year ago they won back to back titles starting from the Asian Games. Being praised for giving such a good performance after just being paired for 3 months at that time. Their reign however ended at the 2007 Swiss open where Koo vowed to shave his head bald if they won that tournament. They did win. But Koo just had a crew cut instead of a shave. This led to many losses and horrible displays of badminton. Most will say it is caused by the broken promise he gave.
Lee Chong Wei
Probably the most satisfying player of all. He did however stumbled last year and gave some ridiculous excuses. But he somehow managed to make up for it with some remarkable victories. The most recent was the win over Lin Dan at the Thomas Cup this year. But all badminton fans will remember his comeback win in Malaysian Open 2006. 20-13 down against Lin Dan and he came back to deuce and win the match. FANTASTIC!

Hopefully the upcoming stars such as Wong Mew Choo and Zakry/Latiff wont be a disappointment. It really is such a waste.

Ok done with my incredibly long post. Oh well, until next time. Bye!!!
