Swimming finals day 7

Sorry again for not posting yesterday. Anyway heres today.....

Kristy CoventryIn the 200m backstroke Coventry looked as determined as ever. After narrow losses in the 200Im,400IM and 100m backstroke, she was focused on getting a gold instead of settling for 2nd best. She was the defending champion and her only competition came from Hoelzer of USA. But she absolutely dominated the pool in this race. Winning this event in world record time.

Michael Phelps
This was probably worth 2 gold medals for Phelps before the race. If he were to lose this to Crocker, his teammate, then he would lose his spot in the 4x100m medley relay. And Phelps wasn't about to let that happen. Crocker died away fast and Cavic was leading. The commentator said that Cavic would need to be 0.7 seconds faster than Phelps on the 1st 50m if he wants to win for Phelps is just so commanding in the 2nd 50m. Cavic turned 1st and was 0.62sec in front of Phelps. Phelps was slowly gaining ground but it didn't look enough. But as they touched the board, Phelps name was up there as number 1. Replay showed that Phelps(top) finished with his arms above the water and Cavic(bottom) was gliding to the wall underwater. At the 99.9m mark, Cavic was in front but Phelps snubbed him to win the race by 0.01sec. By the way, Crocker didn't get a medal.

Rebecca Adlington
She was aiming for a 2nd gold in this 800m event to go with her 400m gold. And she wasn't about to disappoint. She trashed the other together with trashing the 19 year-old world record set by Janet Evans in 1989. She i dare say is the middle distance swimmer of all time. She is the 1st British swimmer to win 2 golds at the Olympics in the last 100 years. Yes, not 10, 100!

Cesar Filho Cielo
Nobody knew what to expect from this lad in the 50m freestyle. Nobody gave this pint sized Brazilian any chance even when he was the fastest qualifier. All eyes were set on the likes of Eamon Sullivan and Alain Bernard, when suddenly they saw this guy in lane 4 powering to the finish. The medal presentation was filled with emotion for this guy and he has my respect. Bernard in the end got 3rd while Sullivan got 6th.
